Human respiratory syncytial virus(HRSV)

Human respiratory syncytial virus(HRSV).jpg

Human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) is an enveloped, single-stranded negative-sense RNA virus belonging to the genus Orthopneumovirus within the family Pneumoviridae. The virus is a major pathogen causing lower respiratory tract infections in infants and young children and is widely distributed globally, transmitted through droplets or contact. HRSV exhibits significant seasonal epidemic characteristics, with infections predominantly occurring during winter and spring in temperate regions. As the virus can cause recurrent infections and lacks long-term immune protection, epidemiological surveillance of high-risk populations and research on viral characteristics are of great importance.

Human respiratory syncytial virus belongs to the family Pneumoviridae, and its viral particles are pleomorphic, mostly spherical or filamentous, with a diameter of approximately 100–350 nm and a lipid envelope. The viral genome is a non-segmented single-stranded negative-sense RNA, about 15.2 kb in size, encoding 11 proteins. The entire viral particle is structured from the inside out, primarily comprising the ribonucleoprotein complex (RNP), the matrix layer, and the viral envelope. The RNP is formed by the genomic RNA bound to the nucleocapsid protein (N protein), phosphoprotein (P protein), large polymerase protein (L protein), and transcription elongation factor M2-1, constituting the core for viral transcription and replication. The matrix layer consists of the matrix protein (M protein), which plays a key role in maintaining the structural integrity of the viral particle and facilitating budding. The viral envelope is derived from the host cell membrane and is embedded with three transmembrane glycoproteins: the attachment protein (G protein), fusion protein (F protein), and small hydrophobic protein (SH protein). Among these, the G protein mediates the initial binding of the virus to receptors such as glycosaminoglycans on the host cell surface, while the F protein plays a central role in the fusion of the viral envelope with the cell membrane and promotes syncytium formation. The F protein is the primary antigen that induces the production of neutralizing antibodies in the host, and its high conservatism makes it an important target for vaccine development and monoclonal antibody therapies. The structural characteristics of the virus and the functions of its membrane proteins provide a key molecular foundation for the development of diagnostic methods and research on prevention and control strategies.

Our company provides a comprehensive range of antigens and antibodies for human respiratory syncytial virus.
